The Feed My Starving Children event is next week at William Jessup University in Rocklin. More than 3,000 volunteers will pack 540,000 nutritious meals for malnourished children from October 22-24. There are still a couple of volunteer spots open on Friday, Oct. 23 from 12- 2 p.m.
Sixth Annual Event to be Held in October at William Jessup University
For the sixth year in a row, thousands of community members from Sacramento/Placer will gather to pack a record number of meals for malnourished children around the world. Through a partnership with Feed My Starving Children (FMSC), more than 3,000 volunteers will pack 540,000 nutritious meals October 22-24 at William Jessup University in Rocklin.
Throughout the past five years, volunteers at this annual MobilePack have hand-packed more than 2.4 million meals for starving children worldwide. Last year the community support allowed FMSC to respond quickly and effectively to the Ebola crisis in Liberia and Sierra Leone.
“We are looking forward to breaking a record this year to pack more than 540,000 meals,” said Alexia Hall, one of the organizers of this year’s event. “This is a family-friendly event that gets many people in the community involved that will impact children’s lives all around the world. This packing event is a way to bring awareness to global hunger and to give back as a community.”
Feed My Starving Children, an international organization, coordinates MobilePack events around the United States where volunteers combine and package ingredients scientifically formulated to address the needs of malnourished children. Each meal costs just 22 cents.
The Placer Sacramento MobilePack event committee is seeking individuals and organizations—churches, civic groups and corporations—to become financial partners to pay for the meals. Sponsorships are available at the MobilePack website at sacfmscmobilepack.org.
Last year this MobilePack was sponsored by organizations that included Wells Fargo, which sponsored more than 45,000 meals; Randy Peters Catering & Event Planning, St. Matthew Church in Rocklin, William Jessup University and Valley Springs Church, each sponsoring more than 22,000 meals; and a number of other local businesses.
Corporations, civic groups and churches that are interested in partnering with this year’s Sacramento area MobilePack may email [email protected] or call 916-781-0650. The event can also be found on Facebook at facebook.com/SacramentoRegionFMSC and on Twitter at @SacMobilePack.
