El Dorado Arts Council (EDAC) announces the expansion of its Art in Public Places program. 

Art in Public Places began in the Board of Supervisors chambers at 330 Fair Lane in Placerville two years ago. The program provides an opportunity for local artists to showcase their work in a solo show, bringing art to the community. With the program’s success at the Board of Supervisors, El Dorado Arts Council is expanding the program to three more locations: Gold Country Retirement Center, Placerville Senior Center, and Images of Hope at the Marshall Cancer Resource Center.

Star Walker, Program Coordinator for El Dorado County Senior Services, has been working toward creating a more comfortable and inviting environment at the Senior Center. "We are excited about the opportunity to partner with the El Dorado Arts Council and look forward to highlighting our local artists at the Placerville Senior Center," she notes.

Marshall Medical Center’s Director of Cancer Services Wendy Goossen is passionate about the Art in Public Places program as well, stating, “The visual arts are a vital part of the healing process for our patients.”

"Visual art speaks to all of us differently, it can provoke emotions, memories, or fantasies that impact how we feel right in that moment.  It's these conversations that I am looking forward to having with our guests and residents as they experience the gallery presentations. I most assuredly thank and appreciate the El Dorado Arts Council for allowing our community this opportunity," Marketing Director of Gold Country Retirement Center, Jenny Applegate, states.

The first Art in Public Places exhibition opens at Gold Country Retirement Center on January 8, 2016, and exhibitions at the Placerville Senior Center and Images of Hope opening in February.
