Good Tidings

It may only be November, but holiday planning is in full swing!

The season starts with a Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving Day, where participants can race, run, jog or even crawl through a 5K or 10K route. Register by November 6 for discounted pricing.

Bring your family to the weeklong Downtown Holiday Celebration from November 28-December 3. Start the week off at Story Time with Santa on Monday, followed by a Family Game Night on Tuesday, Tree Grove on Wednesday—featuring crafts, Santa visits and holiday trees decorated by local businesses, organizations and schools—and the annual Christmas Tree Lighting on Thursday, where participants can experience an old-fashioned celebration and holiday cheer by decorating cookies, visiting with Santa and listening to music while enjoying food and performances. The weather is even calling for some snow! On Friday, come out for the return of Friday Flicks featuring a screening of The Polar Express at 6:30 p.m. (don’t forget your blankets and chairs!). Wrap up the week enjoying a Pancake Breakfast with Santa and some reindeer games on Saturday morning; pre-registration (fees are $10 for ages 2 and older, and $5 for those under 2 years old) is required, and two seating options are available.

Beginning the week of December 5, Santa is coming to visit several neighborhoods during the return of Neighborhood Santa; visit the City of Roseville’s website for locations.

TAKE A CLASS

As the weather cools and people join together indoors, how about joining Janice Hanzel, a certified clogging instructor, for a lesson in this American folk dance? Classes are held Thursday mornings in the Parkview Activity Room at Johnson-Springview Park. Don’t miss signing the little ones up for Itty Bitty Pre-Preschoolrocklin.ca.us/classes

ACTIVE ADULTS

Meet new friends while playing bridge and pinochle (both meet weekly in the Rocklin Event Center), or take a stretch and fitness class, a low-impact workout that focuses on keeping your mind and body sharp, taught by Sue Inman at Johnson-Springview Park’s Parkview Activity Room on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 11 a.m. If you want to relax, join fellow seniors for Video Day, which meets every Friday at the Rocklin Event Center at 11:30 a.m. to watch a movie while enjoying soda and popcorn. rocklin.ca.us/activeadults

VOLUNTEER

Rocklin Cares is a community volunteer portal that matches people in need with people who have energy and all levels of skills and talents. Beyond matching individuals, the program is available to businesses, service organizations and social groups as a way to recruit and manage volunteers. rocklin.ca.us/volunteer
