This third annual fund-raiser for Blue Heart International raised money to continue their effort to disrupt and dismantle sex trafficking in our community and around the world, and bring girls hope and restoration through their housing program.

Camp Taylor Crab Feed
January 13 // Blue Goose Event Center, Loomis
This second annual event raised $9,000 (of which $320 came from a homemade German chocolate cake at the dessert auction) to provide free medically supervised summer camps for children with heart disease. There were 155 guests in attendance, and about 40 volunteers.

Run for a Cure for Lou Gehrig’s Disease
January 7 // Sculpture Park, Roseville
Approximately 700 Sacramento-area residents and training athletes ran through Miner’s Ravine Trail at this race benefiting the ALS Association Greater Sacramento Chapter. The event included a half-mile kids’ fun run, 5K and 10K walk/run, prizes and a raffle. In total, proceeds amounted to more than $9,000.

Art of Beer Invitational
January 27 // McClellan Conference Center, Sacramento
This sixth annual event welcomed more than 1,400 attendees who received unlimited pours from 34 of the West Coast’s top breweries and small bites from farm-to-fork restaurants. The silent auction raised nearly $3,000 for Sol Collective, whose mission is to provide artistic, cultural and educational programming, promote social justice and empower youth through art, activism, music and media experience.

Artmix: Light
January 12 // Crocker Art Museum, Sacramento
Radiant soul artist Zyah Belle, the Vixens of Vinyl, and DJ Shaun Slaughter drew nearly 800 guests out of the dark and on to a glowing dance floor amid the Crocker’s art galleries. Visitors delighted in dazzling digital dares, light-infused art, light-painting photography, illuminated dance performances, and the glow of Spinity Hoops.

It’s in the Bag
January 25 // Blue Goose Event Center, Loomis
This fifth annual event was hosted by Soroptimist International of Loomis Basin and raised money to support education projects focused on women and girls. Over 250 were in attendance and more than 25 won designer purses; additionally, there were a dozen door prizes and nearly 100 gifts won during the table games.
