Distance: 5 miles, out and back.
Difficulty Level: Easy.
Know Before You Go: This is a local favorite for mountain bikers, so expect to share the trail. Parking in Folsom Lake SRA is $12. There are many different trails to choose from that can be added on for more mileage.

Trail Notes: Like many trails in Folsom Lake SRA, there’s tons of poison oak. Make sure you know how to identify and avoid this troublesome herbage. As always, practice Leave No Trace ethics and go prepared with adequate clothing, footwear, and water.

When choosing hiking boots, there are two important factors: type and materials. Type
Hiking ShoesThese are low-cut, low-weight shoes with good traction. Great for day hikes on established trails.
Mid- to high-cut, these provide ankle support and are more flexible and easily broken in than backpacking boots.
These are always high-cut and meant for taking on heavier loads. Stiffer but longer lasting and great for off-trail adventures.
Materials
Upper LeatherExtremely durable and often allows for resoling. Low breathability and water-resistant.
Often nylon, polyester, or synthetic leather. Breathable, easily broken in, and lightweight.
Lightweight with low breathability.
