Q&A with Local Companies: Petals & Garden—Ashley Olivieri

Granite Bay, 916-995-7781, petalsandgarden.com  | petalsandgarden | petalsandgarden

Services or products you offer: Petals & Garden is a family-run organic farm with over 200 varieties of romantic, fragrant, heirloom-cut flowers and foliage, including sweet peas, dahlias, lisianthus, and peonies—all hyper-locally grown in small batches. We also offer handmade harvest baskets, wreaths, pastured eggs, produce, weekly CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) subscription bouquets (where you can enjoy farm-fresh flowers every week!), mason jar arrangements, event flowers, and more.

What you enjoy most about your profession: Having the flexibility to homeschool my young daughter and spend most days outdoors with her, alongside the bees, butterflies, wildlife, and our chickens.

Fun fact about your company: We grow flowers year-round—there’s always something special in season. We also have an orchard that produces fruit almost every month.

Customer service is: Vital. I appreciate every order I receive and am always trying my best to provide a special product and exceed expectations.

You started your business, because: I wanted to provide fresher, biodynamic, rare, and fragrant blooms to the community. Most florists import their flowers from out of the country, where they’re grown under unfair working conditions and sprayed with questionable chemicals. At Petals & Garden, we have the healthiest blossoms available that also support the local pollinator population.

Most memorable experience as an entrepreneur: Delivering a bouquet for my first CSA subscription. Years later, the same customer still receives a weekly bouquet.

Last big purchase: A new vegetable garden that is 65’ x 45,’ allowing more space for heirloom tomatoes, squash, beans, and cucumbers to grow.

Favorite local restaurant: Dominick’s Italian Restaurant & Deli. Their eggplant parmigiana lasagna is the best I’ve had outside of Italy.

Favorite food: Ripe fruit, picked fresh from the farm.

Favorite small business: Douglas Feed & Pet Supply is a great place for chicken supplies.

When not working, you can be found: Arranging flowers and painting with my daughter.

You love living here, because: You can’t beat the terroir for growing fruit, flowers, and vegetables. I was born and raised here and love the community so much, it’s where I chose to raise my family. We’re lucky to have a small-town feel while being so close to Sacramento.
